Baby #2 Update

Matthew has a lot to fill you in on with the happenings of his younger sibling.  Here's a little update from the eyes and mouth of our sweet "big brother".

I'm going to have a little brother!!!

These are our first real pictures of my baby brother.  Well actually let me tell you a little secret.  We had another picture from when baby brother was a little peanut in mommy's belly, but through a series of events we don't like to talk about it, we no longer have baby brother's first picture.  You see mom wanted to take a picture of ME holding the ultrasound and thought she would laminate it to protect it from my rather rough ways.  In the end, lesson learned, ultrasounds burn (aka turn black, you can never see them again kind of burn) when laminated.  Oops!

Either way now we have these pictures to look at, isn't he so cute?  Mom and dad already think he looks just like me, I mean how can you argue with those long legs?  Like daddy, like me, like little baby!

1st Trimester Highlights

April 18, 2013 - Week 4 – Mom and dad came into my room to get me up this morning, they seemed excited.  Then they told me I was going to be a big brother, I smiled, but really…what’s the big deal? I have no clue what all this fuss is about.  Since we’re celebrating can I have some cheerios?

Week 5 – Mom and dad left me with Grammy while they had their first ultrasound for my baby brother/sister.  I’m not really sure what the ultrasound thing is, but they seemed happy to have a date night alone.  Grammy and I had fun too though – cheerios, tv, playing, life doesn’t get much better!  Later they told me the baby was too small to get a good picture or measurements, so they will try again next week.  Sshh, Grammy doesn’t know the secret yet, good thing I can’t use my words very well, or she would have known!

Week 6 – Mom has been extremely tired this week, but what’s new, I am a busy boy to care for.  I also got to play with a friend this week while Mom and Dad had another ultrasound for this baby they talk about.  Personally I think I got the better end of that deal again.  They said the doctor saw my baby brother or sister, and finally got some measurements, though it was tiny.  I saw a picture, but let’s be real, it looked really similar to my cheerios… They could even see its heartbeat flicker on the screen.  Hmm…maybe this is for real?

Week 10 – This week was so busy, but incredibly fun too.  We drove to Texas and I got to tell all our family that I was going to be a big brother!  My Uncle Ross got married, which meant I got to spend a lot of time with all my grandparents - a fun change of pace.  Other than mom being tired at all of the events, she was such a trooper and didn’t even fall walking down the isle in high heels (I was slightly concerned about my baby brother or sister…a few close calls, but we’re all safe!).  Although I am the one who stayed up past 10pm two nights in a row, who is the real trooper?

Week 12 – This week our family went to Kansas City for mom and dad to attend a marriage conference.  I hung out in childcare most of the time, but it seemed to be a great thing for mom and dad to go to.  Mom did pretty well, but gagged and almost threw up at some of the food they served us.  She ended up eating my (yes the waiter thought I deserved mac & cheese, could you believe mom said no?) kids meal instead.

Week 13 – We started our road trip vacation all over Texas this week.  Luckily mom does pretty well in the car (although bathroom stops seem a little excessive…isn’t that why I wear diapers?), it’s me they were more worried about.  Poor dad has two needy patients to care for, but we all survived and actually had fun on our family road trip.  Mom is doing incredibly well.  She really only gets nauseas or sick when she doesn’t eat, or something smells particularly awful.  Dad still jokes she has a bloodhounds nose, but I don’t really know what that means.

Week 15 – Mom took me to her doctor’s appointment this week.  We got to hear my baby brother or sister!  He or she is doing well the doctor says, and I thought it was really interesting listening to that whooshing noise that came from mommy’s belly.  Things are slowing down a little bit as we just got home from a great vacation in Texas.  Mom’s belly is slowly growing and she complains about not fitting into her normal clothes, dad and I can hardly tell a difference though.  Mom says she can also feel tiny movements from this so called baby inside her tummy, but I wonder if she just didn’t eat too many of my cheerios.

 2nd Trimester Highlights

We are busy these days and don't really take the time to write things out every week anymore.  Besides most of mom's symptoms have ceased, so there isn't a lot to write about.  She very rarely throws up anymore, which is good, but bad that you never know when it will hit!  I am into everything now too, so that makes me curious what she is doing sitting on the bathroom floor by the toilet that I am not allowed to play with.  Mom also says that her back hurts her a lot, which I think is similar to when she was pregnant with me, but she always says things could be a lot worse.  Other than that her belly is growing, and the baby likes to kick her which I don't understand.  I would be getting in trouble for that but mom and dad think it is neat when the baby kicks her?!?  She has gained what she thinks is a ton of weight, but the doctors say she is perfectly on track for what they like to see.  She probably doesn't want me to tell you but I overheard something about 10lbs at 20 weeks.  We waited what seemed like forever to find out the gender of my little sibling.  Mom and dad both got to go to the big anatomy/gender ultrasound at 21 weeks, which was a huge blessing considering dad has been traveling the world lately.  The result?  They told me it's another one like me, a boy I suppose.  What other option was there really?  I think this is great news and can't wait for my baby brother Michael Parker Darville to arrive so I can harass love on him.  We are going to be best friends and do everything together!  Our family is so thankful for baby Michael and how perfectly God is growing him inside of mom's belly!

The first baby bump picture of mommy and Michael at 27 weeks!
